A Certificate of Compliance is issued by the Buildings, Safety, Engineering, and Environmental Department (BSEED) for commercial properties within the City of Detroit that have met all life safety and code requirements. Once obtained, a Commercial Certificate of Compliance is valid for two years from date of issuance. A Certificate of Compliance must be obtained for all commercial buildings and structures in the City of Detroit, whether active or vacant. All inspections and processes are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the City of Detroit Property Maintenance Code, Chapter 8 of the Detroit City Code and the City of Detroit Zoning Ordinance, Chapter 50 of the Detroit City Code.
