Fire Inspections

Annual Life Safety Fire Inspections are conducted by the Detroit Fire Department (DFD) Fire Marshall Division in accordance with Chapter 18 of the Detroit City Code, the Detroit Fire Prevention and Protection Code. Inspections occur as a part of routine daily district work in support of the core mission of the DFD Fire Marshall Division to provide the citizens and visitors of Detroit with the highest level of fire prevention using standards and guidelines set forth by the Michigan Building Code, City Ordinance and the NFPA (National Fire Protection Association). Inspections are also conducted to fulfill City of Detroit (CoD) Business Licensing requirements. Business owners required to obtain or renew a CoD Business License from Buildings, Safety Engineering, and Environment Department (BSEED) must get a Fire Permit from the Fire Marshall division as a part of the licensing process. The Permit certifies that the business premises have undergone and passed a Life Safety Fire Inspection within the past 12 months.Click here for the Analytics Hub visualization of Fire Inspections.
